Pipeline being laid for directional drilling

Directional drilling services

Protection service for directional drilling

Coating and mechanical protection for pipelines installed via Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), designed to protect the anti-corrosion system during preparation, handling, installation and pullback of the pipe.

The challenge

Abrasion, friction and impact before the line goes into operation.

During directional drilling, the pipeline can be exposed to abrasion, friction, impact, rock contact and mechanical stress. Properly selecting and applying the coating system is essential to reduce the risk of damage before the line goes into operation.

Pipeline construction in the field: alignment, preparation and field-joint protection

Solutions

Internal and external protection for weld joints.

Our services can integrate surface preparation, anti-corrosion system application, field joint protection and installation of mechanical protection systems, according to each project's particular conditions. The goal is to provide a continuous solution that protects both the pipeline's original coating and the areas worked on during construction.

Field joint protection

Continuity and strength at the line's most critical points.

Welded joints are critical points within a line intended for directional drilling. We offer field joint coating solutions that aim for continuity with the plant-applied system and resistance to the mechanical conditions present during installation.

Depending on project specifications, systems compatible with coatings such as FBE, 3LPE, 3LPP and other anti-corrosion systems can be used. Our systems are internal for the weld joint and external for protection through joint systems or heat-shrink sleeves.

Anti-corrosion and mechanical protection

An extra barrier for the most demanding process.

For applications with a high risk of abrasion or damage during pullback, layers of mechanical protection or reinforced systems can be added, creating an extra barrier over the anti-corrosion coating.

We apply anti-corrosion systems across a wide temperature range, up to 300 °C.

Coated pipeline ready for pullback at an HDD crossing
  • Reduce damage from abrasion and friction during pullback.
  • Protect the coating from contact with soil, rock and abrasive materials.
  • Reinforce critical areas such as field joints and repairs.
  • Maintain the continuity of the anti-corrosion system.
  • Reduce the risk of holidays or exposed steel during installation.
  • Provide protection tailored to the diameter, length and specific conditions of the crossing.
  • Increase the mechanical resistance of the coating system during installation and service.
